london calling

the latest episode in the terror saga has reared it's ugly mug. let's go over the major events starting with the great depression, shall we?

1929 (or so) - stock market go boom.
30s & early 40s - people are broke, starving, suffering, unemployed, angry and until '33 unable to drink a drop of alcohol to drown their monetary woes. prohibition... *shakes head*
1933 - hitler schmitler becomes chancellor of germany.
1939 - britain and france declare war on germany.
1939 - 1941 - american public wants nothing to do with the war. who can blame them, war blows. but the american gov't sees opportunity in the war. opportunities painted for them by general motors, one of the largest corporations in america at the time. they paint a picture of a united america at war, a happy, wealthy america building tanks and jeeps and artillery and selling them to the good guys (and secretly the bad guys). but how to get the american public to support a declaration of war?
december 6th, 1941 - the white house recieves a telegram that there will be an attack on pearl harbor the following day. much discussion ensues and the decision is reached, they will not let on that they know. it's the perfect reason to declare war and get the country out of it's stinkin' depression. they issue an order to move all the aircraft carriers out of the harbour (they're a zillion times more expensive than anything else that was there, might as well save 'em).
december 7th, 1941 - pearl harbour is blown up like a bowl of soup with a firecracker.
december 8th, 1941 - fdr declares war on japan, with the overwhelming support of the people.
1942 - present - the united states of america become and remain one of the wealthiest and most powerful nations in the world. looks like the plan worked. but how to become even more wealthy?

OIL

i could get into the cold war here, but time is an issue.

2000 - oil shortages are being predicted and the american oil reserves only give the gov't a half-stock, so schemes begin to stew in the white house.
2001 - a plan is hatched to build a pipeline from the caspian sea, identified as one of the world's largest untapped oil resources. the only problem is getting into afghanistan and iraq to build it.
leading up to sept. 11th, 2001 - warnings of a major terror attack on US soil emerge and as part of the caspian sea plan, are ignored.
sept 11th, 2001 - someone, we'll never really know who, hijacks planes, takes down the wtc, etc. you all know. it sucks. it's sad. no more or less sad than the daily killings in the middle east or sudan or rwanda, etc, etc, but are treated as much more important.
sept 18th, 2001 - a string of anthrax attacks hits the US and people are instructed to and begin to wrap their houses in plastic and duct tape. hysterical. "saran. 2 million cases of anthrax thwarted and counting. now available in military surplus stores!!"
january 29, 2002 - the axis of evil is born! no, this is not an entity out of a bad super hero movie, this is iraq, iran, north korea and syria or "regimes that sponsor terror". i love the loose use of the word terror. but anyway. al qaeda is blamed for everything that has gone wrong in america for the last decade and bin laden is the principal offender. being as afghanistan is harbouring such a terrorizing international criminal, it's only natural that an overpowering american military show up and kill the country's men, women and children in search of ol' bin laden. a search that never delivered it's fruit and has since been forgotten. it may seem like the invasion was for nothing, but we can't forget the caspian pipeline. one country down, one to go.
late 2002, early 2003 - whispers of iraq's involvement in 9/11 start to surface and become louder until threats of war are made. no one wants the war. people protest in numbers larger than anything in history. NO ONE WANTS IT. this is key.
march 2003 - regardless of the fact that the entire world, including most americans, is against a war in iraq, and regardless of the fact that the US gov't is supposed to be a gov't by the people for the people in which majority should always rule, prez dubya ignores his countrymen and declares war on iraq. the war continues to take the lives of bad guys, american soldiers and innocent civilians to this day. the english and australian are the only militaries of any power really, who join forces with the yanks. every other major country in the world has rejected a proposal to support dubya's murders.
early 2005 - bush's best buddy, tony blair, is facing an election in england. but everyone's mad at tony because he sent english troops to fight a war that wasn't theirs to fight, nor legal, nor justified. tony's in the hot seat. but he wins nonetheless.
june 2005 - the g8 summit is comin' and one of the topics of discussion is oil being "the key to stability". loose translation: we gotta get the ball rolling on the caspian sea project! but how? with so much resistance in the middle east and so little support from the western world for extinguishing that resistance! i'd imagine dubya piped up at this point and said something along the lines of "when we needed to join the war to get out of the depression, we 'allowed' pearl harbour to be bombed. when we needed oil, we blamed afghanistan and iraq for the 9/11 attacks which has enabled us to begin building a pipeline to the caspian sea to tap that shit. it's easy to get support. now here's my plan....*whisper whisper whisper*
july 7th, 2005 - london is bombed.

you figger it out.
